Escalation Vs. Compromise

Compromising should never be an option for any organization as it drags you towards mediocrity. Businesses around the world have the mandate to keep growing through continuous improvements, delighting customers with products and services they had never imagined before.

However, there are times when problems creep in any business’ operations. Often you can resolve the problems, but there are times when you can’t make them go away, as they keep recurring. In such a scenario, escalation is the best option.

For example, a manufacturing company may have a global presence with distribution networks in urban areas. However, the last-mile rural distribution remains a challenge owing to various logistical issues. Do you think that the company must compromise with the situation and focus only on the urban markets? Well, if they do so, they would leave a wide gap for a competitor to reign the rural markets. An ideal situation would be to escalate the problem. Strategic tie-ups, buying-out locally distributed products or even creating innovative logistical solutions can be considered for the business to profitably operate in the rural markets.

To Dos:

Tell people (and show them) to come to you whenever they know something wrong is about to happen OR they are in a situation for which they do not know the solution. People rarely share, so remove that barrier.
